This week Ashley Isenhower and I took a trip to Julian to begin planning a family camp for our church. Having never been to Camp Stevens I was not sure what to expect. It was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to get up there again.
In Godly Play training we are told to think back to our Sacred Spaces from childhood. The first thing always in my mind is my grandmother and her house, her church and a camp she sent me to as a small child. That camp was the center of many spiritual moments. Swimming, riding horses, nature hikes, archery and songs beside the camp fire. There were also moments alone and time to really connect with nature. Camp Stevens reminded me of that wonderful time in my life. Everyone there was so welcoming and kind and there is just a peaceful presence there that I haven't felt in a long time.
What Ashley and I hope to accomplish with Family Camp, is a time to connect with our church family, nature, and our Creator. Some time to remember that we are all part of the Great Family, all counted, all valued, all loved.
If you are interested in contributing to our plans for Family Camp, please contact Ashley or me. We would love to hear your ideas, hopes and needs for this amazing experience. Also take some time and visit their website for more information.
Peace be with you.
