Our Heart - Igniting a passion for Christ
Jeremiah 20:9: “But if I say, ‘I will not remember Him or speak anymore in His name,’ then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire shut up in my bones; And I
am weary of holding it in, And I cannot endure it.”
As a junior higher or high schooler, you may feel as though you are constantly trying to strike a balance between what is comfortable and known while
simultaneously forging new changes. While this is a time full of excitement and growth, it can also lead to uncertainty and challenges you may not have faced before. How will you navigate this newness?
At St. James, there is “a burning fire shut up in [our] bones,” a fire we are “weary of holding” and “cannot endure.” This fire is our love for Christ and the burning light that guides us through our toughest challenges. Through our youth ministry, we hope to ignite this same fire in the young people who worship with us.
Ignite is geared towards 6th-12th grade students interested in fueling the fire for Christ within themselves. If you too have a fire burning in your bones that you can no longer endure and want to join others as we worship our God, come join
us and help ignite the same guiding love for Christ in others!
What We Do
Our youth ministry is guided by the interests of the young people of our
congregation. At the beginning of each year, the youth generate a list of topics
to discuss fueled by questions they seek answers to. Such topics include learning about different religions, exploring why there is bad in the world, or how to manage sadness and anxiety through faith.
Each month, within the context of fun events and sometimes crazy games and
activities both at St. James and in the community, a new topic is discussed. Our ministry is built upon Biblical and theological truths and is centered on
community, service, and outreach. Our goal is to provide youth with a safe,
welcoming environment, which provides the freedom and support to ask whatever questions may arise as they deepen their faith in God.
