Past Exhibits of GALLERY by-the-Sea

Gallery-by-the-Sea has hosted the exhibition of cartoon works by New Yorker cartoonist Lisa Rothstein, which opened September 29. The show ran the following two weekends, As part of the exhibition Lisa led fun cartooning activities in the courtyard both Sundays. October 1 featured learning to cartoon animals. Kids and animal lovers of all ages got tips and enjoyed drawing funny pictures of their furry friends. October 8, right after the Blessing of the Animals, all were invited to bring their pets (or a photo) to the Courtyard and Lisa drew a cartoon of them before their eyes.

The Arts Committee hosted "Art Speaks" at Gallery-by-the-Sea with the opening reception on Friday, March 17.
This exhibit was in conjunction with the Episcopal Community Services and the residents of Uptown Safe Haven. All proceeds from sales went to the artists.

The prolific artworks of Cherry Sweig were combined in a solo exhibition November 6 through 27, 2022. Guided by seven renowned collections and descriptive commentaries, viewers traveled around the world and back. Cherry presented themed demonstrations: Saturdays and Sundays in November - St James Church ‘en plein air’ inside and out, and Corfu’s Skyrian horse watercolors from her upcoming book, Other demonstrations included - urban sketchbook illustration and oil painting of Meteora, the giant pillared rock formations in central Greece, with Eastern Orthodox monasteries precariously “built in the air”.

The artist explains that these works were inspired by a 2017 article in the New York Times, "San Francisco Asks: Where Have All The Children Gone?" The article explored what happens to the cultural fabric of a city when families can no longer afford to live in it. Her works take up that exploration.

The works of three local artists – jewelry maker Ann Craig, painter Paula McColl and photographer Edie High Sanchez. The jewelry, paintings and photographs in the exhibition were available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from these sales was donated to charity.

The Works of John August Swanson September 10-November 14, 2021
John August Swanson is a local artist from Los Angeles. He paints in oil, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media, and he is an independent printmaker of limited-edition archival art prints, serigraphs, lithographs, giclées and etchings. His art reflects the strong heritage of storytelling he inherited from his Mexican mother and Swedish father.

Photo Exhibit: "Treasures We Have Seen During Quarantine"
On Rally Sunday, September 20, 2020, we enjoyed a virtual photography show on Zoom. The purpose of the show was to connect with one another and see each other’s faces! Share what we had seen this summer! Adults, teenagers, and children were invited to submit up to two photos each for the video photography show. |
