Living Water

Continuing our “season of creation” series, the Rev’d Mark Hargreaves notes how the Samaritan woman left her old water jar behind as she returned to tell others of Jesus’ living water. Fr. Mark asks us “What do you need to leave behind so that you can drink deeply from the springs of God's living water, which alone can satisfy our thirsty souls?” Read now.

Your New Heart

The Gospel lesson today from St. Mark has Jesus speaking to the Pharisees as hypocrites. It’s a difficult passage but the bottom line from the Rev’d Mark Hargreaves is “What Jesus is looking for is not external observance, but the internal transformation of the heart.” But we’re not to worry, according the prophet Ezekiel, God assures us: "A new heart, I will give you.” Read now.

Evil Never Wins

In the last of our sermons on St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians the Rev’d Mark Hargreaves discusses how St. Paul approaches the fact of evil in this world and how best to deal with it. Keying off the words sit, walk, and stand, he states “…together, I think, they sum up what is most important in life.” Read now.

Sorry, all full!

St. Paul urges us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, but how can we be if we’re already full with spiritual junk food? The Rev’d Mark Hargreaves examines this dilemma and offers some advice. Read now.

Your Part to Play

The Rev’d Mark Hargreaves parses this week’s letter from St. Paul to his Ephesian friends about how we are all one body in Christ, each given God’s grace in unique ways. Fr. Mark concludes: “The church, the body of Christ is much more like a warship, a battleship, where everybody on board has a part to play.” What is your part to play on this “battleship”?

The Power of Love

On St. James Day the Rev’d Mark Hargreaves draws us a picture of our patron saint who might confuse at times the qualities of power and love. But St. Paul sets us straight in his letter to the Ephesians, and in so doing Fr. Mark offers “…we might be able to let go of the love of power and find instead the power of love, the power to serve.”

We Are Jesus People

Continuing our dive into St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, The Rev’d D. Rebecca Dinovo examines how St. Paul is able to bring so many conflicting, disparate persons and ideas together under Jesus’ roof. With Jesus at the center, she urges “…let’s live it out, so the whole world can see what the Gospel really looks like.” Read now.

I’m Yours

God writes love letters through us and to us, and that’s how he was using St. Paul when Paul was writing to his friends in Ephesus. The Rev’d D. Rebecca Dinovo begins a series on Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, which might be titled “Signed Sealed Delivered I’m Yours.” Read now.
