presents a collection of our outreach partners around San Diego.
To celebrate Outreach Sunday 2022, Martha Ehringer, outgoing chairperson of St. James' Outreach Committee,
presents a collection of our outreach partners around San Diego.
The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego posted their Christmas video with the invitation
for everyone to share it wherever they do social media. Barbara Alcorn sends this update and call for action.
"Summer is nearly over, children are back in school, and we have just received a very grand list of items that St. Paul’s Manor Senior Services would like for the holidays for all their many programs. We have always laughed at the numbers they have given us in the past, but we have always been able to produce the comfort shawls, lap blankets, sensory mats, masks, even when we thought we could not. We need you all. We have the materials to knit or crochet. We can give you refresher lessons. At our Monday afternoon meetings, if you want to come help pin together the arrangement of things on a sensory mat, we would welcome you with OPEN ARMS. There are things you can do at home, watching TV. Come and be part of our wonderful group." Hooks & Needles meets Mondays in the Parish Hall from 2:30 to 4:30 pm Call Barbara Alcorn for more info: 619-701-8490 Mother Rebecca has been part of the diocesan effort to provide spiritual care for the large contingent of immigrant girls being housed in the San Diego Convention Center. She reports that the work has been difficult but rewarding and that the Bishop has now hired a part time staff person to oversee this specific outreach in addition to a part time volunteer staff person to coordinate with all our interfaith partners. They are currently trying to recruit more chaplains to be on site and initiating efforts to collect money for care packages for the girls as they leave the convention center. See details below. Supporting immigrant girls with lovingkindness and practical and spiritual support![]() The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego is happy to be helping to coordinate enrichment and spiritual care services for the unaccompanied migrant children arriving at the San Diego Convention Center. Jesus commanded us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and these are God's beloved children who will be our neighbors for a short time. Caring for them answers God's commandment to love others. The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego is working with its partners in other denominations and other faiths to bring comfort, worship, and prayers to these children. You can learn more about our work HERE South Bay Community Services is coordinating the practical, social, emotional, and educational care for the 1,400+ migrant youth being housed at the San Diego Convention Center. They recently let us know that they have received an abundance of in-kind donations, and at this time monetary donations to purchase items for care packages would be most helpful. These are for the girls to take with them when they leave the shelter to travel to their new homes with family members or foster families. They include backpacks, clothes, school supplies, gift cards, cell phones, and more. Donation Options![]() Make a donation to South Bay Community Services for care packages The most helpful way to support the girls at this time is to make a monetary donation toward the purchase of items for care packages HERE. 100% of donations will be used to purchase items for care packages for the migrant girls. *To make a $200 donation: Select “$200 – Provides care package for migrant youth” *To make a donation of any amount: In the “Choose your own amount” box, type in the amount you wish to donate, and in the “Apply my donation to” drop down, select “Migrant Shelter” ![]() Make a donation to the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego for spiritual care materials You can make a monetary donation to the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego (EDSD) HERE. Use the button below for contributions to sustain our outreach in this time of need. Thank you for your support. Barbara Alcorn shares this for the encouragement of all our outreach knitters and the general St. James community.
Dear Knitters All - Yesterday I took a donation of 48 cans of Oatmeal from Trader Joes to St. Luke’s for their food delivery today. Katherine, the Interim Executive Director of RefugeeNet, gave me this. She said she had just gotten it from Ms. Gomez’s office. I had to share it with you. Keep up your mask making and knitting. We are making a difference. It will be posted on the bulletin board at the church. Everyone needs masks. Have a great day. Barbara |
