Colossians 4:2: "Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving."
Last Friday Fr. Mark invited us to think about what we can give thanks for at this time and today we find the same invitation from the letter to the Colossians. I love the way Scripture reminds us over and over again to pray and offer thanks to God. This is a practice I deeply enjoy doing with my children at bedtime. Every night after a bedtime story, we read Scripture and I ask them to offer up one prayer or one thanksgiving. Sometimes they come up with a deeply profound sentiment...but more often it is simply thanking God for toys, stuffies, or even "princesses" or "belly buttons."
And lately, when I can take a broader perspective and look beyond the challenges of home-educating, I realize how grateful I am that I am witnessing so much more of my children's learning and growth, not just day by day, but hour by hour. That is a precious gift for which I am grateful.
So let's keep adding to our gratitude lists, especially as we devote ourselves to prayer during this time.
Thanks be to God!
