Christina Miller Joins Us as Parish Curate

Picture
Christina is a fifth generation Point Loman, where her parents re-settled her family after living in South and Central America for over a decade. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Pepperdine University and spent a year studying abroad in Heidelberg, Germany, followed by teaching English in Arusha, Tanzania. She completed her Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary and was deeply formed by a summer of traveling and studying throughout Israel-Palestine.
During seminary Christina began discerning a call to ordination in the Episcopal Church while attending St. James in South Pasadena, where she fell in love with the sacraments, liturgy, beauty, and commitment to equality and inclusion. She then moved to Philadelphia to be the Senior Scripture Engagement Writer for American Bible Society, and became a member of St. Peter's in Society Hill, one of the oldest churches in the U.S.
Upon moving back to San Diego a few years ago, Christina worked as a chaplain at Sharp Memorial Hospital and an upper division theology professor at Point Loma Nazarene University. She also began a formal discernment process for ordination, leading to a year of Anglican Studies at Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. Alongside her studies, Christina served as a seminarian at St. James in East Austin, a historically Black Church with arguably the best music in the city. She is overjoyed to be joining St. James-by-the-Sea as a curate, which seemed only appropriate to continue her legacy with churches by the same name.
In addition to being part of St James' community, Christina is training to be a Spiritual Director through Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington, D.C. and continues to share her writing at ordinaryliturgy.com. You can read more about her story at ordinaryliturgy.com/my-journey.
