Rooted by the Cross
Colossians 2:6-7: “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to
live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
Being a young adult is a time of transformation and self-discovery, an adventure
that can play a defining role in who we will be in this life. While it is a time full of adventure, camaraderie, and learning, it can also be fraught with especially challenging circumstances not previously encountered. Such times, although often catalysts for growth, can also lead one to feel anxious, confused, or unsupported. When the chaos of life rages around you, are your roots deep
enough to weather the storm? Is the soil in which you are anchored able to sustain you?
Cross Roots is a young adult ministry geared toward those in their 20s or 30s,
both single and married, searching for greater fulfillment than can be offered by
the dry and barren lifestyle of today’s society. Our ministry is firmly rooted in
Biblical and theological truths and bears many fruits including spiritual growth,
social support, and service opportunities. Our discussions offer an environment in which passages from the Bible or other books relating to the Christian faith can be discussed and applied to our daily lives. As we meet together, we not only discover answers to the question, “Who am I?” but explore “Whose am I?” as well. Our identity in Christ strengthens us as we navigate the challenges faced by young adults everywhere, while our fellowship offers the support of others who share our beliefs.
A fresh calendar will appear soon. Watch it to see the current and following month’s schedule, as well as the topic of discussion for each meeting. Cross Roots currently meets at 5:00 pm every Tuesday. During this time, the group gathers together to grow our relationship with Christ as we discuss various scripture readings or topics of interest, often over a shared meal or dessert.
The meetings take place at St. James in the young adult room (The Loft) located on the second story above the library. Additionally, as noted on the calendar, the group meets once a month in fellowship with the youth and other members of the congregation (e.g. bon fires at Fiesta Island). These meetings also take place on Tuesday nights.
Whether you are looking to re-root yourself in a God who strengthens, offer
praises to the One who nourishes, or simply meet with other young adults over food and in fellowship, please join us and become cross rooted!
